Tips for Coping with the Threat of CoVID-19

coping strategies.jpg
  • Stay in your devotions – this will keep you focused on Jesus and the hope that He brings

  • Write out your prayers – be specific in who/what you pray for

  • Start keeping a gratitude diary – each day write down something/s that happened that you are grateful for.  Share it around the dinner table with your family – get them to share their diary for the day as well.

  • Stay connected with others – phone a friend

  • Ask those around you are they okay

  • Practise deep breathing – count to 5 on breath in and to 5 on breath out.  Use this as soon as you begin to feel anxious or panicked

  • Each evening, plan one pleasant activity for the next day

  • Try to keep a routine every day

  • Get good sleep

  • Eat well and exercise as much as possible

  • If you cannot get out, spend some time each day having a break in your mind – choose your favourite spot and think about it – colours, sounds, smells, tastes, texture.  When you need a break, go there in your mind – like a daydream

  • Use a journal to write about your feelings/emotions

  • Find a trusted friend to share this journal with

  • If you have spare time, use it to write encouragement notes (or texts) to others. You could use the GLAD formula

One thing for which you are Grateful for this person

One thing you have Learned from this person

One thing that you Appreciate about this person

One thing that Delights you about this person

  • See what other positive things you can add to this list
