SOAP Devotions

A note from Ps. Kev :
Below is an example of a SOAP devotion from my journal. I encourage you to keep things simple and write and much or as little as you feel, while thinking what the scripture means to you, and how you could apply it to your life. After I have journaled for the day I like to give the devotion a title, this one I called : We Have The Choice.

We Have The Choice —

S : Scripture
Today’s Scripture :

“Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:7

O : Observation
My observation :
If we are eagerly waiting and are tapped into the Spirit, partaking of the Tree of Life daily, we won’t be without the work of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual gifts. On the other hand, if we are not doing these things and we are lacking in spiritual gifts and not seeing good fruit in our life, where are we tapped into? Our own desires?

Do we want to be living from our own flesh, partaking of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil or do we want to partake from the Tree of Life, being sustained and empowered daily by the Holy Spirit? Our default, go-to setting is to go by our flesh because of the actions of Adam and Eve, which birthed us into sin. But when we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are granted access to the Tree of Life. We now have the choice of which tree we partake of; a tension we will carry until Christ returns.

A : Application
How can I apply this to my life :

Every day, I will choose to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit, who reveals to me the will of the Father, and partake of the Tree of Life. If I don’t make this choice, I will default to following my flesh; discerning right and wrong through the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

P : Prayer
My prayer :

Father help me to surrender to the Holy Spirit's will and direction always. Amen.
