PUBLIC OPINION

9/10/20

SCRIPTURE: Luke 23:23-24 “But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. So Pilate decided to grant their demand.”

OBSERVATION: Here we see a leader that caved into public opinion because of the unhealthy alliance that existed between the corrupt leaders of the temple and Rome. Pilate knows that Jesus has done nothing deserving of death – but he compromises simply to keep the peace of the public. Sadly, this is prevalent today with leaders being persuaded by the anger, rage and bullying of minority groups trying to get their point across.

APPLICATION: I must never allow the force of public opinion to cause me to sway from what I know to be right. I must hold my ground with courage and conviction and not lower the standard. God’s opinion must prevail. I must stay in relationship with God so I can be led in the direction that he calls me to be in.

PRAYER: Father, help me to remain strong and courageous always. Amen.

At OurChurch, we follow the Life Journal Reading Plan and use the SOAP journaling method - Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. Download a booklet here for some tips on how you can get started.
