SOAP Devotions
A note from Ps. Kev :
Below is an example of a SOAP devotion from my journal. I encourage you to keep things simple and write and much or as little as you feel, while thinking what the scripture means to you, and how you could apply it to your life. After I have journaled for the day I like to give the devotion a title, this one I called : Living & Leading Well.
Living & Leading Well —
S : Scripture
Today’s Scripture :
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6-7
O : Observation
My observation :
Paul is writing to remind us, and to encourage himself, about the faithfulness of God throughout all the difficult seasons of life. He wants us to know that when we stay in intimate relationship with God, through prayer and thanksgiving, nothing can take away our peace in Him. Often in these difficult seasons we become anxious for nothing because we focus on the circumstance, instead of the faithfulness of God. Through our relationship with Him, by prayer and being thankful, His peace that surpasses all understanding will encompass us.
A : Application
How can I apply this to my life :
There is no season in our lives, no pandemic, no wars and rumours of wars, no political unrest, that can take away our peace when we remain in Him. By growing and strengthening our relationship with God, by praying in all circumstances and by expressing gratitude to God for His work in us, we receive His peace – His peace that surpasses all our understanding.
P : Prayer
My prayer :
Father, help me to live and lead from this place always. Amen.
