OBEDIENCE & DISCIPLINE

 14/7/20

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:11 “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."

OBSERVATION: This scripture is showing that our growth in righteousness does not come without the rod of discipline. It is a good reminder that God doesn’t chastise us just because what we are doing is wrong, but because he can see our potential if we live in obedience to Him.

APPLICATION: Growing up, my own father tried to model this as best as he could. He was never selfish in his discipline towards me, it was to better me and shape my future. Even though it was painful at the time, I can look back and understand why it was necessary. Now I can look at God and trust in His discipline and know that it is for my eternal growth.

PRAYER: Thank you for your chastising Lord. I am sorry that I still lash out just like I did with Dad, but seeing now how well it has been listening to him, it is an encouragement to listen to you even more. Amen.
