TRIUMPH OVER TEMPTATION
6/7/20
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 4:14-15 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
OBSERVATION: This is a great reminder that Jesus, the Son of God, sits on a throne in heaven to intercede and represent us. He is the firstborn of the new kingdom and He sent His Spirit to dwell within us always to give us hope. Jesus was not only fully God, but fully man too. And because of this, he was tempted just like all of us – yet He did not sin. The spirit that was in Him is in us too, enabling us to have triumph over our temptations.
APPLICATION: I must not give in to sin. I have the Spirit of Christ living within me and it is the same spirit that allowed Jesus not to give in to temptations. So, in the same way, with the same spirit, I must not give in to temptations. I know that in this life I will have troubles and temptations of all kinds; but I have Jesus to hold on to and to guide me through all temptation victoriously.
PRAYER: Father, may the power of Christ dwell in me powerfully so that I can stand and have victory over all sin. Amen.
