SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 42:5-6 “Then they said to Jeremiah, ‘May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us. Whether it is favourable or unfavourable, we will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the Lord our God.’”
OBSERVATION: The people of God have been diminishing in number due to their unfaithfulness to God. So, they asked Jeremiah to seek God for them and in doing this, they made a glorious promise in their hearts to God, however, they had no intention of keeping this promise because they were caught up in their own affairs. This resulted in them losing everything.
APPLICATION: I don’t need to seek out a prophet to inquire of God for me, as He has placed His Holy Spirit within me. But I do still have the potential to make promises I have no intention of keeping, which can bring disastrous consequences in my relationship with God and with others. I need to understand and live out the importance of seeking God with a truly submitted heart and do what He calls me to do, not follow my own agenda.
PRAYER: Father, help my promises to be sincere and aligned with your plan and purpose for me. Amen
