Devotions
Lesley Mathews has shared one of her recent devotions with us, and allowed us to share on her behalf. Lesley is using the SOAP method that we encourage to make sure the revelation of scripture she is receiving is being applied to her life. Share with the rest of us what our heavenly Father is saying & doing in you!
Scripture:
Jeremiah 29:7 .. "and work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare."
Observation:
Jeremiah wrote this letter from Jerusalem to the elders, priests, prophets and all the people who had been exiled to Babylon. He was exhorting them to pray for this place - even though they had been sent there as exiles - banished to a place not of their choosing. It must have been difficult for them to pray for their new king, their new leaders and the new environment to which they now found themselves. After all, they had no choice in being banished to this place.
Application:
Even though I have not been exiled to a foreign place, I/we need to pray for the city in which I/we live so that God can bring blessing, peace and prosperity. The "Love This City" campaign is a directive that God will surely continue to bless because it is biblical and what God wants me/us to do so that He can move and show me/us His amazing blessings and most of all, reveal Himself to the lost and dying.
Prayer:
Loving God, thank you for revealing Your truth through Your word. It keeps us fresh and on target with your perfect will for us. Thank you for your calling us to pray, act and love the city in which you have placed us. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in this place. Amen.
