FRUITFULNESS

19/9/20

SCRIPTURE: Luke 3:9 “The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

OBSERVATION: Here, John is talking to the religious folk of his day. These people believed that because they were descendants of Abraham’s line and that they strictly followed the law of Moses, that they were automatically made righteous. John lets them know that it is not bloodline that establishes them as children of Abraham, but what makes them righteous is repentance and faith that produces good fruit.

APPLICATION: My righteousness and unrighteousness does not come from the pedigree of my past and family lineage. It comes from my faith in Christ and living a life of repentance producing good works. Failure to be fruitful comes with a hefty price tag. I must keep my eyes on God and allow Him to daily transform me from the inside out, so that I can be producing good fruits according to His will.

PRAYER: Father, may I always produce good works as evidence of who I worship. Amen.

At OurChurch, we follow the Life Journal Reading Plan and use the SOAP journaling method - Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. Download a booklet here for some tips on how you can get started.
